U3A Alexandra - Session 2 - The Gift of Music
Speaker: Richard Madden QSM, ARSCM, B Mus.(Hons) Otago, LRSM (Singing).
Richard studied composition with Edwin Carr, and singing with Honor McKellar at the University of Otago as part of his Bachelor of Music degree. He has taught as Head of
Music at Columba College and St Hilda’s Collegiate and has directed the Royal Dunedin Male Choir, the Knox College Choral Scholars, was sometime Assistant Choirmaster of the
St Paul’s Cathedral Choir, and is a past board member of the New Zealand Choral Federation. He is currently the conductor of the Central Otago Regional Choir. As
recognition for his contribution to community and church music, he was awarded a QSM in 2017, and received an Associate of the Royal School of Church Music at Durham Cathedral
in 2019. A number of his choral works have been performed and recorded throughout the world.
